A great example of bone tumor resection assisted by a patient-specific guide was performed in New Jersey under the expertise of Christina Gutowski, MD MPH.
The aim of this procedure was to remove the tumor and allow the surgeon to proceed with reconstruction by inserting a long screw.
To achieve this objective, a postero-lateral approach was chosen, offering optimal exposure while minimizing trauma to the surrounding tissues. The personalized guide, developed from a detailed preoperative plan, enabled precise cuts with a 10 mm safety margin around the tumor and precise insertion of the K-wire into the bone in the direction of the reconstruction canulated screw.
The 3D image highlights the validated resection plan, with three strategic cutting planes.
The post-operative results are remarkable. The X-ray confirms a flawless execution of the plan, with clean and precise cuts that respect the defined safety margins and the preplanned position of the screw.
A big thank you to Dr. Gutowski and the entire team for this successful collaboration. Great work!
